 The Avengers — Series 1

Although the channel had been operating since August 1957 and was therefore able to air The Avengers from the very beginning, Scottish Television (STV) joined only when it had proven itself popular in other ITV regions. Scottish viewers therefore missed the first 15 episodes and were offered the series fortnightly from 10th June 1961 (The Yellow Needle). As if to give viewers fair warning that they would prove to be the ITV region least interested in The Avengers, STV chose to air Scotsport, movies and the ITC series Whiplash in place of the last four episodes of Series 1 on Saturday nights in December 1961.

(4) It appears that there were late changes to the schedule on this day and it is highly possible that Take Me to Your Leader did not air as planned. The Sunday Sun and The Observer suggest it was in the schedule close to broadcast, but the Saturday newspapers and the Sunday Post do not list The Avengers in this slot at all.
(5) This transmission was listed in Friday newspapers including the Fife Free Press, but by the time that Saturday newspapers went to press The Avengers had been removed from the schedule. Stanley Eveling, writing in The Scotsman on 9th February 1974, said, "On Sunday I settled myself down, a stomach full of pork and sprouts, to watch the Avengers and lo and behold it's been cancelled. Not a word of apology and then, to cap it all, some lousy 'B' film is put on and we have to wait hours for Scotsport."
(6) By rights this should be Homicide and Old Lace, but it could possibly be a rescheduled Take Me to Your Leader.
(7) A prospective schedule for Sunday 10th February 1974 published in the Fife Free Press on the Friday before included The Avengers at 1.10pm. This transmission did not come to pass due to restrictions of the Government-imposed Three-Day Week.
(8) It is likely that one or even both of these attempted transmissions was of the episode Homicide and Old Lace, the only episode not to be screened by STV during the 1969-1975 period.
(9) National newspapers state 12.00 noon, but the locals suggest 11.55am.

(10) Forward Base scheduled, but replaced with Hostage.
(11) Emily scheduled, but replaced with Forward Base.
(12) Various newspapers, various regions list Hostage in this slot, others say "As Southern". A few papers listing Southern state The Gladiators, though a couple of them of them have that title but the synopsis for Hostage so something was clearly changed quite late.
