Border Television was the twelfth
ITV region to come online and was created to serve the areas of
Berwick, Dumfries, Roxburgh, Cumberland and the Isle of Man. The
channel's first day of broadcasting was Friday 1st September 1961.

The Avengers — Series 1
Border Television came into
existence just in time to catch the last Avengers episode
before its Autumn break - Kill the King. When the series
returned in December 1961, Border again joined the weekly ABC Network
transmissions, showing a total of five Series 1 episodes.

(1) Border Television did not take
The Avengers Series 2 from the start of the run, joining on the
eighth week of transmission. The channel had mostly been showing Broadway
Goes Latin in the Avengers timeslot. Border remained with The Avengers
for seven weeks and then left the run for a further extended period,
rejoining for the final three episodes only.
(2) When Border joined six other ITV regions to screen the
Best of The Avengers repeat season in July 1964, four of the five
episodes they would show had not been screened in the region
previously. (The fifth was Dead on Course on Saturday 8th
August 1964.) Ultimately, Border
transmitted only 14 episodes of the 26 episodes that formed
Series 2. Note that our numbering of episodes reflects the fact that
these transmissions were scheduled after the completion of Series 3's
broadcast.
(3) It would appear that Border Television screened only six
Best of The Avengers episodes whilst most other participating
regions aired seven. They scheduled an episode of GS5 on
Saturday 15th August 1964 in place of The Mauritius Penny, an
episode that Border had not previously transmitted.

Dial A Deadly Number |
Saturday 2nd April 1966, 9.05pm |
(4) Our numbering appears
to leap forward at this point; this is because of the Best of The
Avengers repeat run in July-August 1964 which included four Series
2 episodes that had not previously aired on Border Television.
(5) Dial A Deadly Number
scheduled, but since that episode was broadcast at the end of the run
without being noted as a repeat, we surmise that it did not air in the 5th
December 1965 slot. It appears to have been replaced by another Series
4 Avengers episode, most likely to have been The Murder
Market.
