(5) Start time in The Guardian is stated as 7.20pm, but the times of programmes either side makes it obvious that this was a typographic error (otherwise the game show Treasure Hunt would run 20 minutes instead of the 30-minute slot in other regions and The New Avengers would occupy a 70-minute slot).

159 The Gladiators or Hostage Thursday 8th December 1977, 8.00pm (8) (9)

(6) Forward Base scheduled, but replaced with Hostage.
(7) Emily scheduled, but replaced with Forward Base.
(8) Various newspapers, various regions list Hostage in this slot, others say "As Southern". A few papers listing Southern state The Gladiators, though a couple of them of them have that title but the synopsis for Hostage so something was clearly changed quite late.
(9) If Hostage was shown in this slot, then it is quite possible that Channel's first transmission of The Gladiators was on Wednesday 15th October 1980!

Researched and compiled by Simon Coward, Alan Hayes, Andrew Pixley and John Tomlinson
