 The Avengers — Series 1

Ulster Television joined the broadcasts of The Avengers in March 1961, more than two months after the ABC Network transmissions had commenced. Rather than show all the episodes previously seen in the ABC ITV regions, Ulster instead started with Hot Snow - to introduce the series' premise - and then joined the ABC Network transmissions from Dance with Death. Episodes 1-12 were shown fortnightly, alternating with a drama series set in the world of publishing, Deadline Midnight. The series reverted to a weekly schedule for Episodes 13-16.

(1) The ABC Network were transmitting Hunt the Man Down to ABC Midlands, ABC North and Anglia Television at the same time that ATV London, Southern Television, Television Wales & West (TWW), Tyne Tees and Ulster Television were screening Hot Snow.
(2) Strangely, although TWW transmitted Hot Snow on 18th March 1961, they did not broadcast Brought to Book, which is generally accepted as the second part of the opening story. TWW showed an episode of the US film series, 77 Sunset Strip in its place.

(3) This episode was shown in place of The Rotters, which was billed in TV Times magazine. Newspaper listings confirm this substitution. The Rotters was rescheduled to be screened in the Ulster region on the evening of Friday 25th April 1969. However, there would be another twist in the tale...
(4) The episode Killer was scheduled for this date but was pre-empted, with Get-A-Way! shown in its place. Killer was finally broadcast in the Ulster region on 2nd May 1969.
(5) The Rotters - already pre-empted once on Ulster Television in 1969 - was rescheduled for Friday 25th April but again was not screened, this time due to industrial action. It finally aired on Friday 16th May. Definitely a case of third time lucky!
