Born on 22nd November 1919 in Watford, England, Dennis Folbigge was one of South African radio's leading actor-writer-directors. He emigrated to South Africa in 1946 and over a long career was responsible for adapting and directing many serials and series. Among these was The Avengers, upon which he worked for two years having taken over the reins from Tony Jay, tailoring the original television scripts for radio, and directing the recordings. From time to time, he also worked in live theatre, his stage credits including plays such as The Spider's Web (1980), The Unexpected Guest (1981) and The Hollow (1983), all for Pieter Toerien Productions, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1983) for Brickhill-Burke.

Dennis appeared in South African television programmes, including the series Westgate. Among his feature film credits is the Oscar-winning Zulu (1964, starring Michael Caine), in which Dennis played Commissary Dalton.

Dennis Folbigge died in South Africa in 1995.
