TV One
(National Service)
On 1st April 1975, the New Zealand
television service underwent a reoganisation. Whereas previously it
had been broadcast on a regional basis from Auckland, Christchurch,
Dunedin and Wellington, it would now become a national service. The
old four-letter television station codes (AKTV, CHTV, DNTV and WNTV)
were dropped and the services replaced by a single channel called
Television One — remaining a public service broadcaster as the
regional service had been. The New
Avengers was transmitted on this new service from 1977 and was the
first Avengers series to gain a national screening in New
Zealand.

(1) Due to the late switch to
colour in New Zealand, which did not occur until 1973, The Eagle's
Nest was the first Avengers episode to receive a colour
transmission in the country. The colour Emma Peel episodes (Series 5)
would be repeated, for the first time in colour, between the broadcast
of Series 1 and 2 of The New Avengers (shown from 21st February
to 23rd May 1978 on Tuesdays on TV One after 10.00pm).
(2) The episode Gnaws was
aired in an early morning slot as a 'filler' some months after the
rest of Series 1 of The New Avengers had been
transmitted.
